Sal Salis ~ When to Go

When to Go

Game fishing on the ‘Westside’ and reef and Sailfish fishing in the Exmouth Gulf is good all year round and it is very unusual for anglers to this region going away empty handed and without one really awesome fishing story to add to their journals.

November & December

Excellent game and bill fishing as well as shore based fly and bonefish fishing - as the water warms up the larger fish move onto the flats.  You will also find more baitfish close to the shoreline which is a good indication that the predators are nearby.

January & February

The camp is closed from mid-January through to early March for the cyclone season. At this time of year the region is very hot and the cyclones cause  rough seas - not good for fishing!  Fly and bonefish fishing the flats is certainly an option during this period and the warmer waters are also perfect for giant herring which is an awesome fish to hook into on light gear as they power across the shallow flats. Although Sal Salis luxury tented camp is closed during this period, alternative accommodation packages are available on request.

March & April

Perfect conditions for Marlin and Sailfish as well as for reef fishing in the Gulf and bone & fly fishing along the flats.

May & June

Excellent game fishing and perfect fishing conditions all round for reef fishing, sailfish fishing in the Gulf and bone & fly along the flats.

July & August

The game fish are still around and it’s also not uncommon to raise a few good marlin at this time of the year. Spend a day trolling up to the Muiron Islands is a sure way to bring on all the action.

September & October

Great reef & Murion islands fishing at this time of the year. The Westside and the Muiron Islands will always reward anglers with good catches of Yellowtail, Trevally, Mackerel and Queenfish.
