Expert Fishing Guides
Having lived in the Northern Territory for the last 13 years, lodge manager John Cooper heads up a team of professional, enthusiastic and motivated guides at Bamurru Plains. From a very young age John caught the fishing bug, fishing for Barramundi on the Fitzroy River in Central Queensland.
After moving to the Northern Territory John quickly became involved in the competitive tournament fishing scene which saw him gain the coveted title of winning The NT Barra Classic, arguably the most iconic Barramundi fishing tournament in the country. Numerous other podium finishes followed including the Kakadu Klash, Corroboree Park Challenge, and twice also being a member of the most consistent team in the NT Barra Classic. John's interests in fishing also lean towards Marlin and Sailfish and this interest has also seen John win the Groote Eylandt Billfish Classic and Champion Boat under six metres in the Darwin Game Fishing Clubs, Billfish Classic.
John's passion and love of fishing has also seen him take a leading role in the advocacy of recreational fishing rights within the Northern Territory, having served as an executive committee member for the Amateur Fisherman's Association of the Northern Territory (AFANT) for 10 years and also as President of the Darwin Game Fishing Club.
As the lodge manager of Bamurru Plains, John's knowledge, passion and commitment to guest satisfaction will ensure a truly memorable Wild Bush Fishing Safaris experience. John and his team look forward to putting you onto that fish of a lifetime!
